Dr. Shari Johnson, Audiologist
I
was raised in a small farming community in Nebraska, where my Dad
(Robert) was a Lutheran pastor. Summers were spent at Lake Ida near
Alexandria, MN. My Dad and another pastor built a small cabin with a
biffy out back, back when the cost of lake property was only $10 a foot!
Childhood activities, other than living every possible moment in the
water at the lake, included playing piano and violin, singing in the
church choir and competing in county and statewide public speaking
contests.
I completed my bachelor’s degree in Speech at Gustavus Adolphus College in 1970, my Master’s degree in Audiology at the University of Kansas in 1989 and my Doctor of Audiology degree at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona in 2008. I worked as an audiologist since 1990 in various positions, including Northland Ear, Nose & Throat Associates in Duluth, The Brainerd Medical Center in Brainerd, The Hearing and Speech Center in Marshall and Department of Otolaryngology at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Prior to changing to a career in audiology, I worked as supervisor at the Regional Service Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons in Fergus Falls, and as a special education teacher and vocational counselor for the deaf in Massachusetts.
I am looking forward to settling in Alexandria with my Yorkshire Terrier, Annie, and spending time with my Mom, Eleanor, who resides at the Nelson Gables. I also hope to spend as much time as possible with extended family at the cabin on Lake Ida.
